Black velvet slug?

By Torbay School

Black velvet slugThe pupils from Torbay Primary School were pretty sure this was a Black Velvet Slug Melanochlamys cylindrica by using the Collins Guide to the NZ Seashore. This is not a great photo so it was easier to tell in real life, but if someone has a more certain ID we'd like to know. There were 2 of them found in the same rockpool at Waiake Beach, Torbay, Auckland on 9 Aug 2018. Thanks!

Comments:

Yes hard to tell with the photo - you did well to find them as they are well camoufaged. The burrow in the sand and are often covered with mucus.
