Weird and Wonderful

Black Nudibranch

By Torbay School

We found this beautiful Black Nudibranch Dendrodoris nigra in the rockpools at Waiake Beach at Torbay on Auckland's North Shore in March with the students from Torbay Primary School. When we went back in August we found 2 more!

Comments:

Great photo. This nudibranch is easily identified by its dark colour, red line along the outer edge and the white on the outer edge of the gills. Juveniles of this species are more red in colour. You can clearly see the rhinophores at the front of the nudibranch.... they are used for sensing the environment around them.
